What can Alice do for you? Alice gives free sample edits, and supplies quotes for both ghostwriting and copy-editing. She has had two brilliantly reviewed contemporary novels published with a major publisher (Orion Publishing House in London, one of London’s most prestigious publishers, not the small Orion press based in Utah) as well as one, humorous, non-fiction book (published by Pocket Press). The first novel’s film rights were sold, and the non-fiction book won the David Thomas Trust Writing award (for non-fiction). Her first play (published by New Theatre Productions) has been put on at the Lewisham Theatre in London. In addition to her own brilliantly reviewed novels and non-fiction works (please see later pages for reviews), Alice McVeigh has ghost written a number of books for well-known (and less well-known!) authors. Her recent books include a memoir by a survivor of Saddam’s Iraq, a book about the psychology behind success in the martial arts, a memoir from the army chaplain first to arrive in New Orleans after hurricane Katrina, a book on how to sell yourself as a lawyer, the story of a young girl brought up within an Islamic cult, and the autobiography of a woman who has taken on twelve children of every possible race, only to later form an interracial adoption agency. Alice can take your plot outline or manuscript and turn it into a novel, non-fiction book or screenplay, as well as advising on how to get your book published. In addition, Alice has copy-edited books for prestigious publishers including Cambridge University Press and Indiana University Press, as well as a fascinating project substantively editing a book of Ghanian short stories (soon to be published). This does not mean merely altering prose that is clunky, repetitive, verbose, or inexact but shaping the original author’s personal “voice” into the kind of work publishers are looking for. Alice is London-based but American-born and fluent in both languages! Constantly online, she has had major articles published by The Guardian, Verbatim, The Contemporary Review, The Strad and many other publications. Alice McVeigh is an elected member of The Society of Authors. Quotes are available in the form of a fee per hour spent on the manuscript or estimation of total fees. Alice is always happy to do a free sample edit, in order for both sides to be sure of a comfortable "fit" between writer and client. Most manuscripts can be turned around within two weeks, and, as Alice works so much faster than most writers, she can save you money. Please check out the testimonials for references, book reviews, and writing samples.
